Emevé was conceived by Mr. Mario Villarreal’s interest of breaking into the wine industry. Before Emevé, Mr. Villarreal dedicated his time to another business, whose doors are still open. But it was his passion for wine, the one that motivated him to going into viniculture and made him start planting grapes in his ranch, that’s located in Guadalupe’s Valley.
It was in 2004 when he planted 12.5 grapevine acress and in 2005 he planted three more. Then in 2006 he added another six, and that harvest was the one that gave him his first production of wine, one that was reserved exclusively for personal consumption and wasn’t sold to the public, however it was shared with his friends and family.
Emevé started with three wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and “Los Nietos”. This last one is a wine of bordelaise mix, made of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. In order to make these wines with a high quality standard, we import barrels for the production, and back then we used a total of 60 barrels.
In 2007 we added 9.9 more acres and in 2008, after contemplating the quality of the wine and the success between his acquaintances, Mr. Mario decides to commercialize his product, releasing his wines to the public under the name Emevé. This name comes after the sound Mr. Mario’s initials (MV) make in Spanish, because he wanted them to be written exactly as they sound. And that’s how and when the name of the wine was decided.
The results of the production came quickly and Emevé started to be appreciated and recognized, first at a regional level and eventually at an international level.
On the Ranch there are three members of our staff working full time, Mr. Alejandro, Mr. Oscar and Mr. Heriberto, who’s the butler and manager of the vineyards. Mr. Heriberto makes sure that there’s a good pruning, because good wine starts from the care of the grape since the moment it’s planted, he also takes care of irrigation and cleaning, which means he has to prevent undergrowth to get in the way of the optimal growing of the grape. He’s a man with experience in vineyards, because he’s been working on them since 1975, plus he doesn’t just work for obligation, he really likes and enjoys his job, one that fills him with pride and makes him get up every morning with enthusiasm, dedication and hard work, that helps the wine process to be perfect.
Nowadays the vineyard has 15 acres of crops, with different varieties of grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo, Malbec and Chardonnay; and the annual production are 60,000 bottles of wine. The wine is kept in Hungarian, French and American barrels made of oak, that are used to achieved the right flavor and aroma in each wine. These barrels have been imported since the first harvest and today Emevé has 180 in total, although we don’t always use the same barrels, since we have new ones in each production and we sell the ones that have already been used, to people who produce homemade wine.
Mr. Villarreal is very proud to have “Los Nietos” as an emblematic wine, because it’s not only a good wine that stands out for its quality, it also has great sentimental value because it’s named after his grandchildren, who are an important part in his life and fill him with happiness.
The rest of the wines that we produce are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Malbec, “Armonía de tintos”, Chardonnay, “Los Nietos” and Isabella; this last one is a young white wine, original and exclusive of Emevé, with floral and fruity notes.
All these wines can be enjoyed in Guadalupe’s Valley, right in our own Boutique, which is currently being renovated and will be ready in a couple of months, for the pleasure and comfort of anyone who visits the Valley.
